Two doors past the foundry gate

There is no reception desk and no booking fee. You take a number, you sit on the couch, and somebody will call your chair. On a Saturday that is about fifteen minutes.

What we do

Four things, done properly

We would rather do a small number of things properly than a large number of things quickly.

Cuts & fades

Scissor work where scissor work makes sense, clipper work where it does not. Sharp line-ups, proper necklines, and a mirror check from every angle before the cape comes off.

Beard sculpting with hot towels, and straight razor shaves done properly: lather worked in by hand, two passes, a styptic block. Forty minutes of quiet.

Hot flannels, scalp scrubs, steam and a proper shoulder massage. The extras that turn a haircut into half an hour of sitting still.

Colour & grey

Grey blended to your own shade in daylight by the window, not under the warm bulb above the chair. Nobody at work can tell on Monday.

These are the plates we keep on the wall behind chair two, so you can point at one and say “that”. Bring your own photo and we will do the same thing in person.

Angelo Ferraro painted them there himself. In seventy-eight years nobody has found a reason to change them.

We are on time

Booked for ten, in the chair at ten. If we are running late you get told before you get up off the couch.

We ask before we cut

Take it shorter? Leave the side long? Say the word at the start, not the finish. Nobody gets a surprise haircut here.

We sharpen our own steel

Every razor and every pair of shears honed on the whetstone out the back, Monday mornings, before anyone is in the chair.

We remember your name

And how you had it last time. The book in the drawer has been running since the eighties, and the next barber in the queue reads it.

Find the pole, walk in

Look for the red and blue pole. If you can smell coffee and hear shears, you are in the right place. Street parking is free before ten, and the 14 bus stops at the foundry gate.
